About Carlow Town Community First Responders:

Carlow Town Community First Responders are volunteers who come from various backgrounds and are trained to attend certain types of emergency calls within a 5km radius of Carlow Town. We cover Ballickmoyler, Graiguecullen, Crosneen, Carlow Town and Bennekerry, to name but a few. All our members are Garda vetted and attend intensive training over a period of months in order to respond to specific emergency calls.

Our aim is to reach a potential life threatening emergency such as a Cardiac Arrest, Heart Attack, Choking or Stroke in the first vital minutes while the Ambulance is en route. We are there to stabilise the patient and provide the appropriate care including defibrillation until the highly skilled members of the National Ambulance Service take over treatment and transport the patient to hospital.

As a CFR Live group we are linked to the NAS National Emergency Operations Centre and are alerted to an Emergency within our community to provide medical assistance within minutes of a 999 / 112 call being received.

Along with answering Emergency calls we also provide demonstrations of CPR and AED usage to the wider community while also providing The Heartsaver Course to community groups etc.

We have provided the community with 19 Outdoor Heated AED units, making 19 more defibrillators available to the public 24/7 and our work will continue on various projects within our community promoting the strength of the Chain of Survival.
